golden globes

my thoughts:
  1. cheers to 30 Rock as it scores THREE awards! (sadly the office won none but i like the dwight/serena combination)
  2. WALL-E!!!!! best animated film. obvious choice. i'm so happy for that little robot.
  3. heath ledger wins best supporting actor--predictable...i was not at all surprised.
  4. best motion picture: vicky christina barcelona--saw it and it really was not all that good. the only good parts was with penelope cruz (even though i'm a big fan of scarlett johanson) but she only comes in the second half of the movie. the rest of the film was not to my taste.
  5. the one thing that did surprise me was that slumdog millionaire won every category it was nominated. must see it sometime to determine if it was any good.

remind me to never get sick again

being stuck at home is awful. i'm running out of entertainment/tv shows to watch. what i really need is something to take thoughts from my head and clear my head. i want more distractions!

today was my dad's birthday: happy birthday to him!
i couldn't help but wonder if it's inevitable that we'll end up like out parents despite our efforts... frightening thought.

2009

To a new year!

The start of something new....

HURRAH :)

winter break!

Winter break is awesome! but right now, i'm sick so i'm stuck at home trying to get better. what a lame way to end the week, considering how busy the first few days were.

Monday:
chinatown--woot!

dang, look at all those asians.
from left to right: sam, eunice, sutin, me, dean, kelvin, luke (i stole this picture from becky, she's taking the picture so she may be the one not shown)

places we stopped by include:
1. tenren. always good. the agar jelly is NOT as good as tapioca pearls despite what some might say.
2. duck restaurant--we went to "Mr. Tang" because it was cheaper but that place has horrible service. i will never set foot in it again. i wish we could've left less tip. damn those waiters.
3. we stopped by the tea house afterwards. i didn't get anything. however i did snag myself a vietnamese sandwich in this random restaurant afterwards.
4. too bad we did not have time to stop by eunice's house afterwards.

Tuesday:
these alien suburbians came down from westchester to make contact with us city folk.

we rocked out at this karaoke place called "duet" and i sang my humps. a lot of my songs got vetoed. hopefully that videos of me will never see the light of day.

momofuku was being mean with its strange customer policy of no table merging. wtf. i don't think that i will be returning. lee did not get to order anything--which i don't feel half bad about in retrospect because he was the one who gave me this cold.

the diner (i'm blanking on the name) we went to afterwards was, in my opinion, much nicer than those snobby people at monofuku. they had the best tasting chicken pot pie i've ever had and furthermore, they take custom, semi-outrageous requests. apparently you can ask them to put anything in a roll for you.

Wednesday:
we were SUPPOSED to go ice skating but we got rained out. good thing that indoor activities are just as cool. [haha no pun intended]

that's amy in the photo. the other blog author :D

we went to another vietnamese restaurant for lunch! it's the one near the subway entrance on grand street. their sandwiches were better than the one i got on monday.

next stop: union sqaure! i did not know they sold hot cider at the farmers market. what rustic tradition!
i got a new guide for my d80 at b&n because they other one was confusing. the new one has more pictures.
then we dropped by max brennar for another choctail! very intense dark chocolate granitas they've got there. hopefully there was no milk products in those drinks. max brennar is officially on my list of favorite frozen chocolate drinks along with dylan's candy bar and serendipity 3. fortunately their union sqaure location was not as crowded as the time i went with sarah, bonnie, and yang.

after that i visited cooper union! i think it was my first "college visit" after i got into wes. we saw jon and will. will's hair looked spiky even without gel--strange. i was surprised that they willingly subjected themselves to school because classes hasn't started for them either...anyway, their pool tables are great. (i don't think i will ever be any good at that game.)

instead of getting a moleskin, amy convinced me to get a notebook from muji. it was only $1.35. can't wait to test it out. yay for frugality.
